Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition can be defined as placing two variable, side by side and their contrast or similarity are shown through comparison. Many creative processes rely on juxtaposition. By juxtaposing two objects or words next to each other, human brain will automatically associate or transfer meaning. Usually ‘turning’ something familiar to something less familiar or vice-versa.

Task I
This week, we were given a more unique task in the creative studies class:

The above were all the keywords and these words were the keywords for this exercise.Despite, we were told to choose our favourite number in the range of 00 to 99!!

Guess what?! I chosen number of 08, 50, 81...

Then, the lecturer reviewed the usage of those numbers and the code of numbers were arranged in such the way like the above shown.

Then, we need to combine the words as the numbers we had chosen. For example: 08 = Fly and Wood

Hence, the words that I were going to used were:
  • Fly and wood
  • Fire and head
  • Oil and water
Make three sentences by using these three pairs of words. For instance, I made a sentence of "There is a fly on the piece of wood." from the words "Fly" as well as "Wood".

The senteces I made:
  • There is a fly on the piece of wood.
  • There is a fire on that monster's head.
  • I saw an oil layer on that surface of water in the cup.
Well, the interesting part was that we need to illustrate our sentences by means of drawings.

  • There is a fly on the piece of wood.

  • There is a fire on that monster's head.

  • I saw an oil layer on that surface of water in the cup.

Finally, we were asked to combine the two words in each pair to form a new term and illustrations were needed for the terms combined.

  • Flywood
  • firehead
  • oilwater

Task II

The second exercise in class was to create a creature by mixing the characteristics of two animals which in fact hardly to be able to survive in this world and state the reason for that.

We knew that fish used grills to inhale air to get oxygen and this applied to the categories of fishes. Whereas, horse who is a mammal, is using the lungs for inhalation or respiration and the criteria for horse is on the land.
So if fish was to combine to horse as shown above, the newly species borned will have difficulties for respiration.
Furthermore the overall body structure is unstable. The fish is very light and if it is combined with legs, it is impossible for it to swim or even walk as it may fall down eventually most of the times.

Task III:

This is an analogy exercise.
The first exercise is to create a passage or writing that describes the concept of Love”  based on "CHILI".

Babe, I love you just like I like chilli,
I feel hot upon seeing your lovely smile.
One bite on chilli is spicy,
One kiss from you is rejuvenate.
Your pretty face makes me blushed,
Resemble how I feel upon eating chilli.
Your sweet voice makes my heart melted,
Babe, I love you just like I like chilli,
I feel hot upon seeing your lovely face.
One taste from chilli is spicy,
One hug from you is warmth.

I hope to have you forever,
I hope to hug you forever,
I hope to kiss you forever,
I hope to share with you forever,
I hope the glance from you stays forever,
I hope to feel the love from you forever.
Your compassionate make me brave,
Your presence brightened up my life,
Babe, Are you willing to be my wife?
I promised I will never leave you alone.

The next exercise was to create a poem that shows the concept of "Love or Life"  based on the image of a cup of coffee.

Coffee without sugar is bitter,
Life without you is bitter.
I need coffee everyday,to make me feel refreshed,
I need you everyday, to make my life brightened.
Coffee give me the power to focus,
You give me the power to be courageous.
Coffee makes me addicted,
You makes me passionated.

Dear, can you accept my love towards you?
Can you willing to be my dearest life spouse?
I know the answer, thats why I wont ask you,
But I will forever keep this secret within my heart forever...

Lastly, we needed to describe the concept of "Man or Woman ", by using mortar and pestle.

Man needs woman,
Woman needs man.
This world is incomplete without man,
This world is incomplete without woman.
Man cant be formed without woman,
Woman cant be formed without man.
Man is destined to be with woman,
Woman is destined to be with man.
Just like mortar needs pestle,
Pestle needs mortar.
Mortar is junk without pestle,
Pestle is useless without mortar.
Man and woman fated to be together,
Mortar and pestle formed to be together.
