what is creativity?

Creative studies, this is a new subject towards me. I am very unfamiliar with this subject at all. After the first teaching in the class, I found out that this subject
teaches us a totally different way of thinking  as well as how to be a more creative designer make me feel
that this subject- Creative Studies, is a very interesting subject for me..

what is creativity?
Creativity refers to the phenomenon whereby something new is created which has some kind of value. What counts as "new" may be in reference to the individual creator, or to the society or domain within which the novelty occurs. What counts as "valuable" is similarly defined in a variety of ways.
Scholarly interest in creativity ranges widely: the mental and neurological processes associated with creative activity; the relationship between personality type and creative ability; the relationship between creativity and intelligence, learning and mental health; and ways of fostering creativity through training and technology.
Creativity and creative acts are therefore studied across several discplines - psychologycognitive scienceeducation, philosophy(particularly philosophy of science), theologysociologylinguisticsbusiness studies and economics. As a result there is a multitude of definitions and approaches.

Creativity is the process of generating something new that has value. There are many new ideas and concepts, but some may not have value and hence may not be considered creative. A creation is something original that has value.

This novel idea that create changes to culture is also known as creativity in a capital “C”.  Mihaly Csikzentmihalyi, the author of the book, Creativity, flow and the psychology of discovery and invention described, creativity in capital “C” is the kind of creative work or product that changes some aspect of culture. Compared to individual creativity, which serve personal satisfaction and fulfillment also known as small “c” creativity. Capital “C” creativity in order to have effect on others, ideas contributed must be understandable as well as accepted by the masses. In other words, cultural creativity has the same component like the small “c” creativity, as it is dependent on talent, training, and good luck. However creativity in capital C need to have access to a domain, together with support of a field for a person and their idea to be recognized. Therefore, creativity does not happen inside people’s heads, but in the interaction between a person’s thoughts and a sociocultural context. It is a systemic rather than individual phenomenon.

For example:

Gutenberg took the winepress and the die/punch and produced a printing press. Thus, a simple definition of creativity is the action of combining previously uncombined elements. From art, science, innovation and invention to everyday chores, this is part of the nature of being creative. In the case of Gutenberg, printing press that he had created is not the effort of his alone. The community and the society which has supported and accepted his idea, permitted his invention to existed as something new that is valued enough to be added to the culture. However the issue surrounded this mysterious process has sparks discussion and arguments among scholars of psychologist. On one occasion a debate has taken place regarding to this matter between Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and another psychologists, Professor Robert Epstein the author of the book Creativity Games for Trainers. One arguing that creativity can and should be taught, whereas the other insisting that cultures can tolerate only a handful of creative people in each generation. (Williams & Stockmyer, 1999)
Creativity involves the translation of our unique gifts, talents and vision into an external reality that is new and useful. It is important to be aware that creativity takes place unavoidably inside our own personal, social, and cultural boundaries. To understand creativity is not just to study the individuals but also social mechanisms that stimulated their idea and social network that recognized and spread their innovation.
